St. Louis Senior Photographer | A Stunning Session with a Ritenour High School Senior

Senior year is a monumental time in every student’s life and the parents! We can’t forget the parents/guardians! It takes a village! It’s the final chapter of high school and the beginning of an exciting new journey. One of the best ways to capture this transition is through a professional senior portrait session that showcases personality, passions, and future ambitions.

Recently, I had the pleasure of photographing a Kennedy aka KenKen, a Ritenour High School senior who embodies dedication and drive. She’s a cheerleader, a violinist, and an aspiring nurse, and she wanted her St. Louis senior portrait photos to reflect every aspect of her high school experience and dreams for the future. We planned a full session with multiple outfits and eye catching locations across St. Louis, each adding a unique touch to her story as a high school senior.

Why Senior Portraits Matter?

Senior portraits are more than just photos; they capture a pivotal moment in time. This is the year of “lasts”! Last pep rallies, last games, last prom with the anticipation of firsts, like stepping onto a college campus or stepping into your college dorm for the very first time. Professional senior portraits allow students to celebrate their achievements, showcase their interests, and create lasting memories for themselves and their families.

For this session, we chose a variety of locations that represented different aspects of her life. From the iconic architecture of the St. Louis Central Library to the academic prestige of Washington University, and the sentimental backdrop of Ritenour’s football field, each spot was intentional, capturing the essence of who she is and where she’s going.

Downtown St. Louis Central Library – A Nod to Her Love for Learning

We started this senior portrait session at the stunning St. Louis Central Library, a true architectural gem in the heart of downtown. With its grand staircases, intricate ceiling details, and endless rows of books, it was the perfect backdrop to capture her academic journey and aspirations.

For this part of the shoot, she showcased two distinct looks. An elegant black gown that radiated sophistication and a bold houndstooth two-piece suit that brought a classic yet modern edge. Adding a personal touch, she incorporated her violin, beautifully highlighting her passion for music.

Washington University – Capturing College Dreams

Next, we headed to Washington University, one of St. Louis’ most stunning and prestigious campuses. The gothic architecture, ivy-covered walls, and grand archways provided a perfect setting for a collegiate vibe. Since Kennedy is planning to pursue nursing, it felt fitting to capture her in a place that symbolizes academic excellence.

For this part of the shoot, she continued wearing her stylish houndstooth suit while we also incorporated a vintage nursing uniform, adding a unique touch to her session. We captured these moments near the iconic Brookings Hall, where the towering stone columns provided a timeless and sophisticated backdrop, perfectly complementing her story.

We also incorporated a stethoscope prop, symbolizing her future as a nursing student. Holding it with confidence, she radiated ambition and determination. These images were a perfect bridge between high school and the next chapter of her life.

Ritenour High School Football Field – Celebrating Cheerleading

After capturing Kennedy’s academic and future-focused side, it was time to showcase the sport and team that had been a huge part of her high school experience—cheerleading. We wrapped up the session at Ritenour High School’s football field, a place where she’s spent countless hours cheering on her school.

Dressed in her cheer uniform, pom-poms in hand, she absolutely lit up in these photos. We took action shots of her mid-cheer, as well as classic portraits in , capturing her infectious school spirit.

Outfit Changes – Showcasing Every Side of Her Personality

A senior portrait session isn’t complete without outfit changes! Each look represented a different side of Kennedy’s personality:

  • Elegant & Scholarly: A classic dress for the library session, showcasing her love for learning.

  • Collegiate & Casual: A modern, relaxed look for Washington University, reflecting her future aspirations.

  • Sporty & Spirited: Her cheer uniform for the football field, highlighting her dedication to athletics.

These intentional wardrobe choices made her session dynamic and personal, ensuring that every image felt true to who she is.
