Congratulations! You made it to senior year! Woot Woot! We know senior year comes with several different stressors such as maintaining a good GPA, submitting college applications, applying for your FAFSA and scholarships, studying for the ACT/SAT, working, and sports. That’s a lot! Trust me we know which is why we want your senior portraits to be stress free and nothing but good vibes. As you prepare for your senior portrait session here are a few things to keep in mind.
Decide On Outfits: Other than the traditional cap and gown think about a couple of other outfits that represents your personality. We recommend a casual/stylish outfit, formal attire, and maybe even a jersey or outfit that represents your extracurricular activities such as, athletic apparel, ROTC, dance, etc.
Props: Props can include books, a football, basketball, metals, instruments, balloons, boombox confetti, or even props that represent what you’re studying in college. For example if you’re going to school to be a photographer you should consider bringing a camera. If you’re headed to the military you might want to bring a uniform or military hat.
Location: Depending on the look you are going for be sure to speak to your photographer and parents about locations. Photos can be captured at a studio, outdoor location, or even at your high school (Must have school permission). It is important that you speak with your photographer to plan ahead.
Makeup/Hair/Nails: As a professional photographers we always recommend professional makeup and hair so you can look and feel your very best. In regards to makeup we recommend a natural glam so your makeup can match your different outfits. A manicure and pedicure (if your toes are showing) is also recommended since the camera does pick up hands and nails. You can even try the press on or glue on nails from your neighborhood beauty supply or drug store.
Bring A Friend: Having a friend tag along can really help make the photoshoot that much more enjoyable. It’s always good to have an extra hand to help carry your bags, fix your hair, make suggestions, make you smile, and even take behind the scene photos and videos for the gram. Bring along your sibling, friend, or cousin to assist with your shoot. Your parents will be there of course but having a friend can really help you to relax and have fun.
Create An Inspiration Board: Get online and search Pinterest to look for inspiration. Sometimes we don’t know what we really want until we search for it. Go to Pinterest.Com and search for senior portraits and maybe even your favorite celebrities to get inspired on looks and a theme. Save your board and be sure to share it with your parents and photographer.
We hope these tips help you prepare for your photoshoot. Remember, this photoshoot is about you and it should be the least stressful time throughout your senior year. We want you to have a great time so you can have amazing photos. Good luck and congratulations to making it to senior year.
